Investing in Heaven while Living on Earth

Two and a half years ago, the day I became eligible for Medicare, I took the day off work.

And went to three doctors.

And took myself to lunch.

Owning our own business most of our adult lives, Tom and I had to purchase health insurance for our family of four and we almost went broke doing it. Plus, we never went to doctors, and God forbid we had to go to the hospital.

One day, our twelve-year-old son was lying on the floor holding his stomach when he said, “Mom, you don’t care that I am sick!”

To which I casually replied, “Micah, I care that you’re sick. But you will either get better or die, and you’re not going to die.” And then I laughed hysterically.

The fact was that we couldn’t afford to go to the most expensive hotel in the world—the hospital.

Thus, my Medicare Day Celebration.

At sixty-seven years old, I am well over the proverbial hill and careening down the other side. It makes me look back on the decades I’ve had here on earth and take stock.

What have I done that has really mattered? Will it last for eternity or be burned up and as King Solomon says, hevel or meaningless?

And did I tell you that I am a Social Worker for the elderly and disabled? I have a front row seat to the downward side of that proverbial hill.

This is my attempt to articulate viewing my life and the world that I observe to measure its eternal value. Because I want to spend these last years of my life investing in the right currency.

My writing won’t be depressing and may even be funny. But my hope and prayer will be that it will be thought-provoking. For both of us.

Even if you are not sure if heaven exists, examining our lives with an eye to our legacy can be  profitable.

So, grab a cup of coffee, find a comfy chair, and maybe even a light blanket, and travel with me my friend on the journey of investing in what I call my I2H stock—Investing In Heaven.

About Me

Hi, I am an Author and Freelance Writer, Pauline Hylton, I am kind of like a cat—with nine lives. No, I haven’t had an after death experience. But I have lived in eight states and about eleven cities. And no, I don’t have a picture plastered in the post office. I have just experienced a lot in my sixty-seven years.

I am writing this blog to share with you what I feel is really important. The life we have and how we use it. Hope you enjoy!

Cheers!
